Happy Monday everyone! I haven't been updating my socials as much lately. Honestly I think the overwhelm of this time of year, coupled with trying to be the most present mum (especially when they're poorly - Hospital sleepover anyone?!), work my other job, still play softball as much as I can, spend what little time I can with my husband, and occasionally maintain the house, It has been hard to make sure I keep social media up to date with posts and content that you guys will enjoy. What this doesn't mean is that I have stopped shooting and editing! I have also really been trying to get my butt into gear and manage the actual business. Annoyingly you can't just do a few shoots and be done. there is a lot of background work that I was very naïve about, but hey.... I still get to do a lot of the fun stuff.
Just yesterday I had the absolute honour of photographing so many families at the Cha Char Chimps (https://ccchimps.com/location/milton-keynes-head-office/ ) Christmas party. I opted not to do Christmas mini sessions this year as I took too long to decide what to do, but this was SO much fun. All of the children were amazing, I can't wait to finish off editing those photos, and share them in time for people to celebrate Christmas their way.
Since August, cake smashes seem to be one of the most popular bookings I have had, specifically for first birthdays. It was extra special to include my little boy in that list of people. I got to experiment booking the studio, shooting a cake smash on location, and setting up a mini studio in someone's house. Each of these session taught me just that little bit more, and I am really excited to bring all of the new found skills to more sessions in the future.
A session I was really worried about, but turned out AMAZINGLY was a session just for some gorgeous dogs! I wasn't worried about being with the dogs, I am very much a dog happy person, but to capture a staffy and a chihuahua, together, and have their owners love the photos was going to a challenge. (Dog owners love their furry babies more than human parents love their human babies!!) but the good news.... I LOVE THESE PHOTOS, and so did they! So bring me all the dogs please. I want to cuddle them and play with the and capture them in all their glory!
So how am I celebrating Christmas, getting a little bit of photography involved, and trying to slow things down a bit before a new year reset? In short, I am only doing one of those things. I will be shutting down my laptop, and putting my camera down from Friday (20th), and taking the time between Christmas a new year to just enjoy a few Christmas movies, lots of food, and cuddles with my family. I will be back to the usual scheduled programming from Monday 6th January, but I would like to do a new year offer. Be sure to check out my Instagram stories over the next few days to help me narrow down what to do.
Something we did decide this year was that my husband and I wouldn't be gifting each other anything for Christmas, as we wanted to put as much into the kids, and the house as we could. What we did do was invest in some new family photos of us. Yes, we reached out to the amazing Olive & Wilde, who spent time with us capturing us and giving us some amazing memories to treasure. But why am I telling you about another photographer?! Well my answer is three fold:
1: Olive & Wilde have been amazing to me, as a photographer who is new to business. We have called on each other when we've needed support with shoots, and it has been wonderful to have them as part of my network. If ever you felt my style wasn't suited to you, I would immediately point you in their direction for a creamy, dreamy, documentary style.
2: The last professional photo we have of the four of us, I took using a self timer, and It's nice, but not my favourite! It needed an update.
3: Because you should always practice what you preach, and I am always reminding people how important it is to capture moments, and build a lasting memory of different stages of your life. I would be stupid to not do that myself.
So what to tell you from here? What can you expect to see in 2025? Well, you can expect something very exciting in March. I have lots to share ahead of March, so keep your eyes very peeled. It is also my official business anniversary in February, so I may well be doing something fun for that. I also have my 30th Birthday which will mean an offer of sorts. So basically, A lot of celebrations, and happiness in 2025! That's what I am wishing for, and what I aim to give back. I have a feeling it is going to be the usual rollercoaster of a year, but the plan is to move with the changes, and not go against it. Here is to more photos, a better understanding of business, and success all around.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, Hannukah, New year, Kwanza, Yule, and everything in between that I have forgotten about.
